Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk is reportedly keen to head to the MLS at the end of the season to play out the remainder of his career in the United States.
The defender is in the final year of his contract at Anfield, and he could lead the club to Premier League glory before departing.
Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold – three stalwarts on Merseyside – are all just a matter of months away from becoming free agents, with Liverpool desperately attempting to retain the services of the trio.
However, any contract offers for Van Dijk look set to fall on deaf ears.
According to Sky Sports France, the defender is already weighing up his next move as he is keen to ‘enjoy one last adventure abroad’ before hanging up his boots.
The 33-year-old is said to have already received a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian outfit Al Hilal, but Van Dijk would prefer to head to the MLS at the end of the season instead as he is a ‘fan’ of the American culture.
Any move would also be viewed as the ‘exotic adventure’ that he is looking to cap off his career with.
Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne, who will be a free agent this summer as well, is similarly hopeful of an MLS switch.
Following Liverpool’s exit from the Champions League at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain last week, the Reds skipper spoke with Nasser El Khelaïfi and Luis Campos, but those talks have been described as ‘nothing trivial’.
Nevertheless, Van Dijk made it clear to the club chiefs that he would be available this summer, but negotiations between the former Southampton star and PSG have not been initiated, and it is unclear whether he would entertain the prospect of staying in Europe.
Van Dijk’s departure will leave a major hole in the Liverpool defence if the higher powers at the club are unable to convince their No.
