Liverpool dropped two points on Wednesday after falling victim to a last-gasp James Tarkowski equaliser at Goodison Park.
The Reds thought they had wrapped up what would have been an impressive victory to put them nine points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
However, they hadn’t counted on Tarkowski popping up to pummel home a fine volley in the very last seconds of injury time.
In truth, it was no less than Everton deserved.
Liverpool were not at their best on the day and will have to console themselves that one point is better than none.
Nevertheless, Arne Slot had a right to be furious after the game, with question marks over whether Ibrahima Konate was fouled in the build-up to the Tarkowski goal.
And after some ugly full-time scenes involving Abdoulaye Doucoure and Curtis Jones, Slot and Liverpool will be waiting to welcome Everton to Anfield in around six weeks time.

Everton celebrated Tarkowski’s goal on Wednesday as though they’d won the Premier League title.
Fair enough, perhaps, given that it was the final ever Goodison Park derby and what it meant to those supporters to come away undefeated.

Still, the celebrations from Doucoure in particular did feel to overstep the mark, and the midfielder has ensured he’ll be on the end of hostile reception during the return game at Anfield on April the 2nd.
As experienced as he is, Pickford will also know what may lay in store at Liverpool’s home.
And speaking to TNT Sports via BBC Sport immediately at the final whistle, the Everton goalkeeper looked ahead to that match.

“It was a fantastic strike [by Tarkowski],” said Pickford.
We deserved a point.”
“We knew it would hang over the fans heads and our heads if Liverpool won 2-1 tonight.
We have to take the positives from it and we know we have to go to Anfield in a few weeks.”
You’d be forgiven for thinking Everton had won the game on Wednesday.
If the Liverpool squad are not revved up to ensure they remind Everton which team are top of the Premier League table, then they should not be playing football at all.
The Toffees traditionally have an abysmal record at Anfield, and after what went down here, you’d expect that to continue in April.
So, while Everton may enjoy their night, Liverpool end it seven points ahead and with a clear vision of what needs to be done to win this title.
Let’s wait and see who has the last laugh.
