Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez has seemingly taken aim at his lack of playing time in a now-deleted tweet over 24 hours before the Reds could be crowned Premier League champions.

Arne Slot's side need just a point to win their 20th domestic title and can regain the top-flight crown against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

However, the excitement of clinching league success at Anfield has been overshadowed somewhat following reports of a deleted tweet from their Uruguayan forward which seemingly aims a pop at his lack of gametime.

This week, reports in Portugal sparked a theory as to why the former Benfica striker hadn't started for Liverpool with the suggestion Benfica could be in line for €5million windfall if he makes 60 league starts for the Reds, while he currently sits on 59.

At 9.55am, an account attributed to Nunez tweeted: "No wonder I didn't play more, because the last game I started in the Premier League went well and suddenly..."

The post was promptly deleted but quick-thinking Liverpool supporters screenshotted the tweet from the Nunez-linked page.

Nunez last started in Liverpool's home win over Southampton in early February when he scored in the triumph over the Saints, but has been consigned to substitute appearances since.

However, it comes after head coach Arne Slot rejected a training ground bust-up with Nunez after he was left out of the squad that beat West Ham United.

"Do you always believe what journalists say?

(take it with a pinch of salt).”

Nunez's tweet comes a matter of eight days after the Dutchman denied a rift with the attacker, who arrived in 2021 for €75million, £64million at the time, with around €25million in add-ons.

An exact breakdown of the add-ons and instalments hasn't been confirmed by either club but reports in the region claimed that the Liga Portugal giants were paid €5m after he reached 10 starts in the Premier League and Champions League combined, the same sum after 35 matches and a further €5million when he reached 60 starts.

"No, he didn't [have a falling-out]," Slot earlier this month.

"He did leave the pitch because he didn't feel himself.

[He left the pitch] as in he didn't have words with a staff member.

"He didn't feel himself the day before the match, and he went inside and he wasn't able to be part of the team the day after.

He didn't feel himself."

Nunez was the topic of interest from Saudi Arabia during the January transfer window but the Reds didn't entertain an offer from the region.

However, he faces an uncertain future on Merseyside with exit talks intensifying.
