Luis Enrique has commented on Arne Slot ahead of the crunch Round of 16 Champions League tie
The Reds topped the newly formatted Champions League league phase, winning seven of their eight matches.
Arne Slot’s side displayed remarkable consistency, defeating AC Milan, Bologna, Girona, RB Leipzig, Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, and Lille on their path to qualification.
Their only setback came in a meaningless fixture against PSV Eindhoven, when Slot opted to rest several key players with qualification already secured.
In contrast, PSG’s route to the Round of 16 has been more arduous.
The French champions finished 15th in the league phase, necessitating participation in a knockout round play-off against fellow Ligue 1 side Brest.
However, they emphatically announced their credentials by demolishing their opponents 10-0 on aggregate, sending a clear message to challengers.
PSG remain unbeaten in Ligue 1 this season and hold a 13-point advantage over second-placed Marseille.
Luis Enrique’s side has been particularly impressive in 2025, winning 12 of their 13 matches played this calendar year.
Liverpool and PSG last met during the 2018-19 Champions League group stage
The Reds claimed a dramatic 3-2 victory at Anfield in September 2018, with Roberto Firmino scoring a stoppage-time winner after PSG had fought back from 2-0 down to level through Thomas Meunier and Kylian Mbappé.
Speaking after yet another 7-0 win, this time in the French Cup over Stade Briochin, Enrique referred to Slot as a ‘top-level’ manager while labelling the Reds as ‘one of the best teams in Europe’:
“Well, if you look at Liverpool, which is theoretically in a transition year, they have a top-level coach [Slot] and remain one of the best teams in Europe,” Enrique said as quoted by Sports Illustrated.
“Their results prove it—they’re at the top of the table.
The goal is to fight until the end.”
He added on his team’s development this season:
“We’re at the beginning of a project with extremely young players, and we will continue climbing the ranks, especially in the Champions League.”
“We’re starting to see the benefits, as the statistics show how we’re performing in this league.
