Opta supercomputer has provided an updated Premier League title prediction based on the latest results.

Although Liverpool entered Matchday 17 as the favourites to win the Premier League title this season, there was a feeling that they would slip up when they faced a Tottenham Hotspur side that had enjoyed huge results against Manchester City and Manchester United.

Spurs entered into the round in a good mood after back-to-back wins where they scored nine goals.

Meanwhile, Liverpool were in patchy form ahead of the trip to North London tie after seeing their lead at the top of the league table cut to two points due to back-to-back draws against Newcastle and Fulham.

As such, the game against Ange Postecoglou’s side was expected to be a potential banana skin and a game where Liverpool’s title credentials will be tested.

However, thankfully for Liverpool fans, not only did the Reds pass the test, but they did so with flying colours.

Arne Slot’s men produced arguably their best attacking display this season, scoring six times against Tottenham.

Although they conceded three goals in a game, for the second time this month, they could have scored even more goals.

In the end, six goals scored and three conceded were enough to see Liverpool retain their place at the top of the table and move four points clear of Chelsea, who dropped points at the weekend.

The Blues were held to a goalless draw against Everton, ending a run of five straight wins.

Premier League holders Manchester City also suffered another loss, meaning that they now drop to seventh on the table, 12 points behind Liverpool, having played a game more.

Arsenal were the only traditional top-six side to record a win this weekend, with the Gunners beating Crystal Palace 5-1 to remain third in the league standings.

The weekend results affected the title predictions, and after crunching the numbers, Opta has revealed the chances of Liverpool winning the 2024/25 Premier League title.

Updated Opta Premier League title prediction

After running 100,000 simulations on the title race, Opta’s supercomputer revealed that Liverpool’s title chances increased by 4% after the weekend results.

Arne Slot’s side now win the title in 86.0% of the supercomputer’s simulations – up from 82.0% last week.

Now the best team in the world according to the Opta Power Rankings, Liverpool are huge favourites to win the title in Slot’s first season in England.

Arsenal, meanwhile, remain second favorites to win the Premier League?

However, despite their huge win, their title chances actually ended up dropping slightly this weekend – from 10.6% to 10.3%.
