Harvey Elliott has experienced a tough season so far in a Liverpool shirt and was at the forefront of the giant-killing FA Cup defeat to Plymouth Argyle, unfortunately being the culprit of a handball that led to the winning penalty for the home side.
From being a key player towards the end of Jürgen Klopp’s tenure, to a bit-part role for the Reds under Arne Slot, it has been quite the change for Elliott and here, we will be discussing whether his long-term future remains at Liverpool.
A GREAT END TO LAST SEASON
Harvey Elliott became the shining light of what proved an anti-climatic end to Jurgen Klopp’s farewell season.
Three goals and nine assists between February and May meant that the English talent was in the best form and run of his Reds career.
Goals against Luton Town, Tottenham and Manchester United were great personal moments for Elliott, and it felt like he was finally being given the opportunity to express himself in a team surrounded by his childhood heroes.
The boyhood Liverpool supporter even shared a moment with Jürgen Klopp during the celebrations against United, a gesture of appreciation towards his now former manager, although bittersweet, as they went on to lose 4-3 and suffered an FA Cup exit to their biggest rivals.

Unfortunately for Harvey Elliott, he has fallen down the pecking order for new head coach Arne Slot, this season.
Having played just 502 minutes, this has led to unwanted speculation around his long-term future with Liverpool and ongoing injury issues have not helped in the slightest.
The midfielder was sidelined for more than two months with a broken toe, leading him to miss a total of fourteen matches, before making his comeback in November 2024, but has since made only cameo appearances for the most part.
Twenty-two minutes is the most in a Premier League match so far for Elliott, coming in Liverpool’s 4-1 thrashing of Ipswich last month, whilst being an unused substitute in six matches.
Not great for a player that looked the main beneficiary from Arne Slot’s arrival in pre-season, although we can never allow for any real judgement on pre-season results or performances.

The downside for Harvey Elliott is that he is competing against Dominik Szoboszlai for his preferred number ten role.
Despite a frustrating few months for Szoboszlai, the Hungarian has started to settle in recent weeks, with performances improving, and as it stands, he won’t be giving up his place anytime in the near future.
As for Elliott, he has had to settle for game time towards the latter stages of the UEFA Champions League ‘League Phase’ and the Carabao Cup, a competition that Liverpool have now reached the final of in back-to-back seasons.
Three goals and positive displays against PSV Eindhoven, LOSC Lille and Southampton, have given supporters a gentle refresh of what he can still offer to the squad, despite playing significantly lesser than he would’ve hoped.
‘I’M NOT LEAVING’
Having been linked to Borussia Dortmund and Brighton and Hove Albion in recent months, Elliott spoke on his future after scoring the match winner in Liverpool’s 2-1 Champions League victory over Lille at Anfield.
He said: “I think it’s pretty clear to be honest.
I’m not leaving.”
Harvey Elliott dismisses transfer speculation with ‘all-talk’ celebration vs Lille.
I’m a massive fan and we’re in a great position so far this season.”
His intentions were made clear, having put any potential departure rumours to bed there and then.
STILL ONLY 21 YEARS OLD
Many supporters now see Harvey Elliott as an experienced member of the Liverpool first-team squad having featured 135 times since 2019, at sixteen.
But almost six years later, he remains far away from entering his prime years as a footballer.
He may have experienced an off-day against Plymouth Argyle, but it’s safe to say he wasn’t the only one.
In a much-rotated side, Elliott was considered as one of the senior figures, despite being just 21 years of age, which isn’t spoken of enough.
If we were to erase the Plymouth performance, the midfielder has impressed in recent matches and can push himself into Arne Slot’s thinking again.
This season, Harvey Elliott may have had to endure a tough period, but it does not mean that Liverpool should rush to sell anytime soon.
Staying fit will be the priority and if Elliott can perform when given the nod by his manager, then there is no reason why he cannot make an impact for the remainder of this season and many more.
