Arne Slot was full of praise for his Liverpool side as they beat Newcastle United 2-0 to move 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League at the end of a gruelling two-week period.

Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister scored the goals at Anfield as the Reds capitalised on Arsenal's 0-0 draw at Nottingham Forest earlier in the evening to move a step closer to a second Premier League title in five years.

Wednesday's game against next month's Carabao Cup final opponents was Liverpool's fifth Premier League fixture in little over two weeks, with the Reds returning 11 points from a possible 15 after games against Everton, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Newcastle.

When assessing his side's performance after the game, Slot insisted the manner in which his side cruised to victory was made all the more impressive as it came at the end of a gruelling 15-day period.

"What impressed me most was that it was our fifth game in fifteen days and the four before weren't the most simple ones; Everton away, we all know how much of an emotional game that was for both teams but definitely for us as well, and then Wolves and two difficult away games with Aston Villa and Manchester City," said Slot.

"So to show up the way we did tonight and hardly concede a chance against a very good team like Newcastle is a big compliment for the players and how they handled five games in 15 days."

Slot, though, admitted there is no time for Liverpool to rest on the laurels after sustaining a healthy lead over the Gunners, with the attention immediately switching to next week's UEFA Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain.

"I don't know because I don't think that way," replied Slot when asked how close the Premier League title felt after Wednesday's win.

"I think about PSG already and what you don't know but I do know, because I watched them against City, [is] I'm impressed with the quality they have.

I think they are on a similar run as we are, they've hardly lost a single game for a long time.

"I'm not sure if PSG have the same run as ours but they are doing really well.

I forget the Premier League for now until we play Southampton."
