Liverpool kicked off their three-game tour of the United States with a 1-0 win over Real Betis at the Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh on Friday night.

Dominik Szoboszlai's first-half goal was the difference with the Hungary captain racing on to Mohamed Salah's pass before firing past former Reds goalkeeper Adrian.

The Reds will now meet Arsenal on July 31 in Philadelphia before concluding their tour in August 3 in Columbia against Manchester United.

Blasts from the past

There was more than a hint of Liverpool nostalgia about the Real Betis team as it was read out about 15 minutes before kick-off at the Acrisure Stadium.

As the exuberant and unmistakably American voice boomed out the two teams prior to the game getting underway, the mention of Betis goalkeeper Adrian San Miguel was enough to induce a round of applause from both sets of fans with Liverpool's fans appreciating the five years of service given by a shot-stopper who had more than a bit-part role in the famous Premier League title-winning campaign of 2019-20.

?

The likable Spaniard signed off in classy style with a message to the fans direct from his social media account earlier this month and while he will have had more intel than anyone about the capabilities of his first opponent as Betis' new No.1, his name was warmly received from Liverpool supporters who won't forget his contributions.

On the flip side, the name of Nabil Fekir was enough to induce winces and groans over a failed transfer way back in the summer of 2018.

It's safe to say it worked out OK.

Elliott hands out unique souvenir

There was a unique souvenir for one lucky pitch-side supporter before kick-off, courtesy of Harvey Elliott.

The Reds midfielder was leaving the pitch after his warm-up routines and made one particular fan's evening by tossing him his shirt from the pre-match exercises.

The supporter in question looked absolutely delighted by the gesture.

The managerial Midas touch.

Jones gives (very) early injury update

?

Having spoken glowingly about how much he is enjoying his time at Liverpool under Arne Slot on Thursday, the last thing Curtis Jones needed barely 24 hours later was another injury.

The midfielder lasted around half an hour at the Acrisure Stadium before signalling that his race was run to the Reds' staff and he was promptly replaced by Trey Nyoni during a scheduled water break.

Jones looked gutted as he made his way towards the tunnel but a thumbs up that was aimed towards a fan who caught the attention of the midfielder was perhaps a subtle indication that the issue was perhaps just a precaution at this stage.

An anxious wait now ensues.

Bradley on ice

After putting into an eye-catching shift at the Acrisure Stadium, it was a watching brief for much of the second half for Conor Bradley as he sat on the substitutes' bench following a raft of changes.

Bradley was one of eight who made way as Slot mixed it up and the Northern Ireland international was later spotted on the sidelines with an ice pack on his shin and ankle, nursing an issue of sorts.
