Liverpool can move another big step toward clinching the Premier League title their players and supporters so desperately crave tonight.

The Reds welcome Newcastle United to Anfield looking to either maintain or extend their commanding advantage at the top.

Liverpool did win the English top flight in 2020 but it remains a somewhat bittersweet memory as it was a momentous achievement celebrated without supporters in stadiums because of the coronavirus pandemic.

But it appears that the trophy could be returning to the red half of Merseyside in the coming months.

Arne Slot's side moved 11 points clear at the summit with a statement 2-0 victory at defending champions Manchester City on Sunday.

That has piled the pressure on the Gunners ahead of their trip to third-placed Nottingham Forest this evening, which kicks off 30 minutes earlier than the Reds' showdown with fellow Carabao Cup finalists Newcastle.

Another slip-up from Arsenal could be fatal for their chances of catching Liverpool, which already look slim given the fact that the leaders have lost just one league game all season.

And what makes the Reds' achievements all the more remarkable has been the fact that they have added just one new signing to the squad left behind by the legendary Jurgen Klopp.

And even then, Federico Chiesa has hardly played.

Klopp's replacement, the understated Slot, has extracted even more from the players he inherited, and his response to missing out on Martin Zubimendi, who U-turned on his decision to join Liverpool and to remain instead at hometown club Real Sociedad, was to transform Ryan Gravenberch into the outstanding No.6 in this season's Premier League.
