Arne Slot is set to be quizzed about Trent Alexander-Arnold next week as Liverpool return to action after a 17-day break.

The Reds host Everton on Wednesday, April 2 and will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing Champions League exit at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain and League Cup final loss to Newcastle United.

Having also been knocked out of the FA Cup by Championship strugglers Plymouth Argyle at the start of February, Liverpool have been afforded a longer break between matches.



They are not in action this weekend as the quarter-finals get underway following the March international break.

But it hasn’t been a quiet break at Anfield with reports suggesting Alexander-Arnold is closing in on agreeing terms with Real Madrid.

The Liverpool vice-captain, who is currently sidelined with an ankle injury, is out of contract at the end of season with his future the subject of constant speculation as a result.

Real Madrid are long-term admirers and failed with a mid-season approach for the defender before the January transfer window.

But following the latest reports regarding Alexander-Arnold, Slot will likely be asked for comment at his next pre-match press conference ahead of the Merseyside derby.

Official invites to the Reds head coach's next public briefing have not yet been sent out to the media, but the club have scheduled a live stream of Slot’s press conference on YouTube for 10am on Tuesday, April 1.

While Slot will be asked about Alexander-Arnold’s future, whether he clears things up with an answer is another matter entirely.

He has kept his cards very close to his chest throughout the season when questioned about the contract situations of his vice-captain, along with Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, whose current deals also expire this summer.

However, the Dutchman could offer an injury update on Alexander-Arnold after the defender suffered an ankle problem against PSG.

At his last pre-match press conference ahead of facing Newcastle, Slot confirmed that the England international would miss the League Cup final but was expected back before the end of the season.

However, Alexander-Arnold had not yet been assessed following his injury, with Liverpool now better placed to comment on his absence over two weeks later.

Slot will also offer updates on the conditions of Alisson Becker and Ryan Gravenberch, after they withdrew from international duty through injury, and Ibrahima Konate after he suffered a knock while away with France.

Besides Alexander-Arnold, Conor Bradley, Joe Gomez and Tyler Morton are Liverpool’s current injured players.
