When the end of season awards are handed out for 2023/24, it’s likely that Liverpool players will feature among them.

The Reds have had an excellent campaign up to this point, with a number of candidates marking themselves out.

Mohamed Salah has been the outstanding player in terms of both goals and assists in the entire Premier League and has to be the favourite to win the division’s player of the season gong.

But both Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch must be set to run their Liverpool teammate close.

And according to pundit Gary Lineker, even Slot has been taken aback.

Gravenberch was superb against Tottenham again on Thursday as Liverpool booked their place in a second consecutive Carabao Cup final.

By now, the 22-year-old being one of the best players on the pitch is not exactly eyebrow raising.

Still, the fact that Gravenberch has been so comfortable in a new position continues to be one of the stories of the season.

Lineker appears to agree, selecting the Liverpool No.38 as one of his midfielders in The Rest Is Football’s Premier League Draft alongside Alan Shearer and Micah Richards.

And having heard Shearer pick Dominik Szoboszlai in his own eleven, Lineker revealed what Slot had to say to him about Gravenberch during an interview recently.

“Those two [Gravenberch and Szoboszlai] have been terrific this season,” he said.

“He’s been superb, as has Szoboszlai, both dangerous players.”

With Lineker, Shearer and Richards picking their best players of the season, there was always likely to be some Liverpool involvement.

There were rules involved, though, which limited the choices.

The trio took it in turns to select players in random positions for their teams.

No player could be chosen twice, meaning that once he’d been picked, the next pundit could no longer choose him in their team.

Still, including Gravenberch and Szoboszlai, eight Liverpool players made it into the three teams.

As well as Gravenberch, Lineker picked Van Dijk, Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Luis Diaz, while also selecting Slot as the manager.

Shearer had Ibrahima Konate as well as Szoboszlai and Richards went with Alisson Becker as his sole Liverpool representative.
