Liverpool are moving ever closer to getting their hands on the Premier League title this season - despite suffering a rare defeat.

The Reds missed the chance to pull further clear of Arsenal at the top of the table after a shock 3-2 loss to Fulham.

However, the Gunners also slipped up with a draw against Everton the day before so the gap remains 11 points, with seven left.

Arne Slot has only lost two league games since replacing Jurgen Klopp and he looks set to emulate the club legend in his first year.

The importance of maintaining their lead at the top has risen over recent weeks after losing in the FA Cup final and being eliminated from the Champions League.

And with Trent Alexander-Arnold agreeing to join Real Madrid at the end of the season, there could be some distraction.

Liverpool need 11 more points to secure the Premier League crown.

They now only need four more wins to do it, even if Arsenal manage to win all of their remaining games.

The Gunners can reach a maximum of 83 points, so it leaves Slot's men needing to reach 84 to win the title in his first year in charge.

All eyes will be set on winning each and every game to get their hands on some silverware, and that started this week.

They beat Everton at Anfield on Wednesday to move one step closer to glory before losing to Fulham, with West Ham still to follow.

After that, Liverpool travel to struggling Leicester, which is the earliest game they can secure glory.

Presuming Liverpool beat West Ham and Leicester, and Arsenal win their games too, the Reds can put one hand on the title by overcoming Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham on April 27.

However, their loss to Fulham meant they won't officially be crowned champions should the Gunners continue to match their results.

So, instead, May 4 away at Chelsea could be the day.

Should they be crowned champions in that fixture, they are likely to get a guard of honour from all remaining opponents this season.

This would mean Arsenal, who look set to miss out on Premier League glory yet again, would perform the gesture for their rivals on May 10.

It's not compulsory for teams to do so, but usually they do to show respect for the title-winners' achievements.

It's something that would hurt Arteta and his squad as they would have to applaud the team who beat them to the title.

If Liverpool slip up before that meeting with Arsenal on May 10, there's potential for them to clinch it against the Gunners.

There are still a lot of games to go this season, of course.

One thing's for sure, Slot's side will lift the Premier League trophy on the final day against Crystal Palace if they clinch it.

And what an end that would be to the first season without Klopp.
