Liverpool appear destined to be crowned Premier League champions after a dream few days - and results - in the title race.

The Reds cruised to a 2-0 win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium and that victory came 24 hours after Arsenal fell to a shock defeat to West Ham on home soil.

It left Liverpool with an 11-point lead at the top of the table and the clear favourites to win the title in Slot’s first season at the club.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta insisted on Tuesday that he would never give up on winning the title, but even the most optimistic of Arsenal fan will be losing hope after the midweek results.

As Liverpool cruised to a 2-0 win over Newcastle, who were missing star striker Alexander Isak, Arsenal again showed little in the way of attacking verve as they were held to a 0-0 draw at top-four rivals Nottingham Forest.

The gap now stands at a staggering 13 points.

Arsenal do have a game in hand over Liverpool, which will come at home to Chelsea next month when Liverpool play in the Carabao Cup final, but that is little consolation for the Gunners after dropping five points over two games.

Six of Liverpool’s 10 remaining fixtures in the Premier League are at Anfield, including one against Arsenal, and it means Mikel Arteta and his players are relying on a major drop in form from a side who have lost only once in the league this season.

When can Liverpool win the Premier League title?

Arsenal have 11 matches left to play in the Premier League this season and can therefore reach a maximum of 87 points.

If the Gunners were to put that kind of winning run together, Liverpool would need 21 points, or seven wins, from their remaining 10 matches to guarantee themselves as champions.

Given their superior goal difference, 20 points is likely to also be enough.

If that gap was maintained for the rest of the season, then Liverpool could win the title at home to Tottenham on April 26.

If Arsenal win their game in hand, against Chelsea in March, then the Reds can be crowned champions at Chelsea on May 3.

The earliest Liverpool can win the title is April 5, when Liverpool are at Fulham and Arsenal are on Merseyside to face Everton.

For the Reds to be crowned champions that weekend, Liverpool must win the three games, including that one, up to that point as Arsenal lose to Manchester United, Chelsea, Fulham and then at Everton.

That would match the record for earliest ever title win, set by Liverpool in 2019-20 with seven games to go.

However, it would set the record for earliest date a league title has been won, which currently stands at April 14, when Manchester United won the 2000-01 title.

The two teams will meet at Anfield on the weekend of May 10 and 11, and the Reds currently look set to be crowned champions before that game and, there, get a guard of honour from the Gunners.
