‘I saw the moment Virgil van Dijk sorted Liverpool’s biggest issue against Man City’
The mastermind of that routine has been revealed by Virgil van Dijk as Liverpool's first team individual development coach Aaron Briggs.
"Yeah, we worked on it in training yesterday, Aaron Briggs came up with it," Van Dijk said.
The former Manchester City analyst is highly rated within the footballing world, and it was reported that Mikel Arteta was also eager to recruit him at Arsenal before he agreed to a deal with the Reds.
Briggs became the fourth addition to Slot’s staff after Sipke Hulshoff [assistant coach], Ruben Peeters [lead physical performance coach] and Fabian Otte [goalkeeping coach].
Former Everton defender John Heitinga would also go on to join the setup as another assistant coach.
Briggs has previously worked at Vfl Wolfsburg, AS Monaco and Man City, and held a variety of roles along the way.
These included assistant coach, tactical analysis coach and performance analyst at both youth and first-team level after rising through the ranks at the Etihad Stadium.
In terms of his role on Merseyside, Briggs is key in ensuring a clear link between the youth academy and the first team at Anfield, which has already seen so much success in recent years.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, Conor Bradley and Jarell Quansah are some of the more recent examples of the strong academy Liverpool has in place, with the likes of Jayden Danns and James McConnell hoping to follow in their footsteps.
