Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over defending champions Manchester City on Sunday was yet another showcase of Salah’s brilliance.

The Egyptian forward opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a clinical finish before assisting Dominik Szoboszlai for Liverpool’s second.

This performance not only highlighted his ability to influence games in multiple ways but also saw him break several records.

Salah became the first player in Premier League history to score and assist in both games against the reigning champions in a single season.

His assist for Szoboszlai was his 16th of the campaign, surpassing Steve McManaman’s club record of 15 assists in a single Premier League season (1995-96).

Additionally, Salah matched Lionel Messi’s record from 2014-15 by scoring and assisting in 11 league matches this season.

His contributions have been pivotal in Liverpool’s title charge, with his combination of goals and assists totaling an incredible 41 goal involvements so far.

Salah’s achievements this season are staggering:

First player to record 25+ goals and 15+ assists in a single Premier League season.

First player to achieve over 40 goal involvements in two different Premier League seasons (41 this season, 42 in 2017-18).

First player across Europe’s top five leagues to reach 50 goal involvements across all competitions this season (30 goals, 21 assists).

Most away assists (11) and away goals (16) in a single Premier League campaign, tying records set by Cesc Fàbregas and Harry Kane, respectively.

With 11 games remaining, Salah is on pace to break Alan Shearer and Andy Cole’s record of 47 goal contributions in a Premier League season, achieved during a longer 42-game campaign.

Naturally, these achievements have put the Egyptian firmly in the driving seat for the European Golden Shoe.

Who can compete with Mohamed Salah for the European Golden Shoe?

The European Golden Shoe is an annual award given to the top goalscorer in league matches across Europe’s top divisions.

Introduced in the 1967-68 season by L’Équipe and now managed by European Sports Media (ESM), the award uses a points system to ensure fairness based on league difficulty.

Goals scored in the top five leagues (Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1) are multiplied by 2.

Goals in leagues ranked 6–22 receive a multiplier of 1.5, while goals from lower-ranked leagues are multiplied by 1.

Only league goals are considered, excluding cup or international competitions.

And, courtesy of Football Italia, we can clearly see that Mohamed Salah is far in advance – 8 points ahead of Atalanta’s Mateo Retegui:

KYLIAN MBAPPÉ (Real Madrid) – 34 points, 17 goals (x2 coefficient)

OUSMANE DEMBELÉ (Psg) – 34 points, 17 goals (x2 coefficient)

VIKTOR GYOKERES (Sporting CP) – 34.5 points, 23 goals (x1.5 coefficient)

CHRIS WOOD (Nottingham Forest) – 36 points, 18 goals (x2 coefficient)

OMAR MARMOUSH (Eintracht F./ Manchester City) – 36 points, 18 goals (x2 coefficient)

ERLING HAALAND (Manchester City) – 38 points, 19 goals (x2 coefficient)

ALEXANDER ISAK (Newcastle) – 38 points, 19 goals (x2 coefficient)

ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI (Barcelona) – 40 points, 20 goals (x2 coefficient)

HARRY KANE (Bayern Munich) – 42 points, 21 goals (x2 coefficient)

MATEO RETEGUI (Atalanta) – 42 points, 21 goals (x2 coefficient)

MOHAMED SALAH (Liverpool) – 50 points, 25 goals (x2 coefficient)

Liverpool’s No.11 is no doubt in line for a plethora of individual achievements at the end of the season – but his main goal will be the Premier League title.

However, Daniel Sturridge believes that Salah should be in Ballon d’Or conversations as well, saying in the wake of the victory over City:

“We’re talking Ballon D’Ors now?
