Federico Chiesa may be forced to wait to make his Liverpool debut after signing from Juventus.

The Reds agreed a deal worth £12.5 million to sign the Italy international before deadline day to strengthen their forward options.

Chiesa was in attendance at Old Trafford to watch Liverpool's victory over Manchester United before the international break.

The 26-year-old spent the two-week hiatus working on his fitness at the AXA Training Centre, where he worked with the Under-21s before linking back up with the first team this week.

Liverpool return to Premier League action this afternoon as they face Nottingham Forest at Anfield.

The Reds will be looking to continue their 100 percent start to the campaign after winning their first three top-flight fixtures before the international break.

Arne Slot was asked about the chances of Chiesa featuring for Liverpool in the clash against Forest.

The Reds head coach hinted that the Italy international may have to wait for his chance to make his debut for the club.

"Federico has trained with the team now three or four times so we will see how he does today and which decision I make as we have more than 20 players," Slot told reporters on Friday.

"(It depends) on if I choose for a position or I choose the fittest at the moment."

Slot has made just one change across the whole three matches in the Premier League so far, with Ibrahima Konate replacing Jarell Quansah for the home clash against Brentford last month.

The following game against Man United saw the Liverpool head coach name an unchanged team, and it remains to be seen if the same will happen again when the Reds take on Forest.

However, the injury to Harvey Elliott during the international break opens up the possibility of an extra spot on the bench which could be an opportunity for Chiesa.
