Real Madrid would have repotedly been interested in signing Mohamed Salah on a free transfer if he didn't sign a new Liverpool contract.

As late as last Wednesday, Al Hilal, it is claimed, thought they still had a chance of securing his signature.

And the news that Salah was going to commit to Liverpool left Al Hilal 'crushed'.



Speaking after signing his new Liverpool contract, Salah told the club's official channels: "Of course I'm very excited.

But I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies and enjoy my football.

"It's great, I had my best years here.

I don't think it's a surprise to you that I knew a bit better how his contract situation went over the course of the whole season.

But also effort, not only money!

"What it might tell you is that it's not only a good season this season, we want to have a good season next season as well.
