With as many as five EFL Championship clubs in competition to secure the loan signing of Jayden Danns on Deadline Day, it appeared that Sunderland were successful in their attempts for the in-demand Liverpool forward.
Danns completed medical tests at the Academy of Light on Monday, and has now put pen-to-paper on a straight loan deal until the end of the season, with no buy option included.
Liverpool were happy to sanction the move with Arne Slot having an extra six attacking options at his disposal, all above the teenager in the current pecking order.
Here, we will be taking a closer look at Jayden Danns’ move to the Stadium of Light and why it makes the most sense for the 19-year-old’s development.
DANNS’ RAPID RISE
Jayden Danns’ rapid rise into the first team setup at Liverpool has been incredible.
His talent was first brought to the attention of supporters whilst playing for the Under-18’s at the beginning of last season.
Thirteen goals in ten matches for the first four months of the campaign did not go under the radar.
Danns’ was rewarded with a first-team debut in January 2024, appearing as a substitute in Liverpool’s 4-1 Premier League victory over Luton Town and even played a role in the fourth goal, scored by Harvey Elliott.
He was then involved in a major triumph just a few days later, as a young Liverpool side led by skipper, Virgil van Dijk, managed to edge out Chelsea after extra time in the Carabao Cup Final, securing Jurgen Klopp’s final piece of silverware.
Danns netted his first goals for Liverpool in a 3-0 win over Southampton at Anfield in the FA Cup Fifth-Round, almost a month later and as we fast forward to this season, he is now making a name for himself on a more regular basis.
Following a four-month injury lay-off due to a back problem, he scored on his return to action in Liverpool’s 4-0 thrashing of third-tier Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup at Anfield last month, whilst gaining his first start in the UEFA Champions League defeat to PSV Eindhoven, becoming the club’s youngest ever starter in European competition.
Now, Danns’ has earned himself a bumper new contract before heading on loan to Sunderland.

We believe that Wearside is the best place for Jayden Danns as he continues his development.
Sunderland head coach, Regis Le Bris, was appointed in the summer due to his experience of working with younger players throughout his time at French side, Lorient, and he is currently exceeding all pre-season expectations right now.
The Black Cats sit third in the EFL Championship, occupying a play-off place, just three points adrift of Sheffield United and Leeds in the automatic promotion spots for the Premier League.
Starlets such as Chris Rigg (18) and Jobe Bellingham (19) are at the forefront of a successful unit, making a combined total of 53 league appearances this season, partnering Dan Neil (22) in a midfield that is only going to get better.
Romaine Mundle (17) and recently introduced, Tommy Watson (17), have also flourished in Le Bris’ system.

Patrick Roberts (29) and Luke O’Nien (30) are experienced heads, with the overall average age of Sunderland’s squad at 23.7, one of the youngest in the Championship.
The Black Cats have been outside of the Premier League since 2016 and back-to-back relegations, meaning they have had to endure the unfortunate events of four seasons in League One, before promotion back to the second tier in 2022-23.
Now, the grey clouds are starting to disappear over the Stadium of Light and the club look to be heading in an upward trajectory.
Jayden Danns will be a great addition to Sunderland’s promotion push, either in a starting role or from the bench.
The attacking talent of Wilson Isidor, Eliezer Mayenda and Tommy Watson, will only become stronger upon the arrival of the Liverpool teenager.
If the 19-year-old can gain consistent minutes, then their supporters will not be disappointed by a forward who is held in high regard from everyone at Liverpool.
