Liverpool moved 11 points clear in the Premier League title race with a hard-fought win over Manchester City on Sunday.

The Reds were given a golden opportunity to widen the gap to second-placed Arsenal after the Gunners were surprisingly beaten by West Ham on Saturday.

And after what was thoroughly controlled performance, Liverpool eased to a 2-0 win at the Etihad Stadium.

Key to it all was Mohamed Salah.

Salah has been having a ridiculously good season, and continued that with another goal and another assist against City.

The Egyptian has rightfully earned plenty of plaudits after the final whistle.

Gary Neville was left amazed by Salah on an afternoon where he surely strengthened his Ballon d’or claim.

And speaking on the day after the night before, pundit Ally McCoist has added his voice to the praise.

Salah has easily been the best player in the Premier League this season.

The 32-year-old comfortably leads the way in the key metrics of goals and assists.

But it isn’t just the sheer volume of decisive moments Mo has been responsible for, he is also doing it when it really matters.

Sunday was the second game running where Salah had got the first goal in a tricky away fixture for Liverpool, for example.

And speaking to TalkSPORT, McCoist says the Reds’ No.11 is now right up there with the best players ever to grace the Premier League.

“Magnificent, that’s the only word to describe his performance yesterday,” said the former striker.

“He is without doubt in my opinion one of the elite players to play in the league of all time.

“It’s remarkable, absolutely remarkable and he’s one of the best players to grace the league.”

Salah has been that good for Liverpool this season that it truly is difficult to find new ways to describe him.

That is clearly the case for Andy Robertson, who told BBC Sport that he ‘couldn’t be bothered talking about Salah’ after the final whistle on Sunday.

“Yeah, I can’t be bothered talking about him to be honest!” joked Robertson.

“Look, he has been unbelievable.”

“He gets a goal and a little assist but I thought his work-rate going back the other way was unbelievable today, that might not get the credit it deserves but today him and Lucho [Diaz] put in such a shit and so did the front men and I think that was key to us keeping the clean sheet.

“He’s on a different world right now,” added the left-back.
