Former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso has spoken up on speculation regarding his future amid links to Real Madrid.
The 43-year-old, alongside former Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp, are reportedly the two major candidates to succeed Carlo Ancelotti should the Italian leave Real at the end of the season.
Ancelotti is expected to be one of the casualties from what has been a poor season for Real Madrid.
The Copa del Rey is their only chance at winning a trophy this season, and recent reports suggest that it will be Ancelotti’s last game at the club.
Alonso could be the man to replace Ancelotti.
The Spaniard is highly rated at the Bernabeu and continues to be linked with a switch there. He moved into coaching with Real Madrid’s Under-14 side the following year, before three years in charge of Real Sociedad’s B team.
However, amid reports about a possible move to Spain in the summer, the Bayer Leverkusen manager has insisted that it is “not a good time” to discuss his future.
“It’s not a good time to discuss the future.
[I understand] that this is happening, but what’s more important to me is what’s happening right now.”
Meanwhile, the agent of former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp also spoke about links to Real Madrid.
Marc Kosicke told Sky Germany, external on Friday that “Jurgen is very happy with his new role as head of global soccer at Red Bull”.
