Liverpool enjoyed a fantastic night on Tuesday as they thumped Bayer Leverkusen 4-0.

The Reds came under a fair bit of pressure during the first-half against Xabi Alonso’s side, but pulled well clear after the break.

In many ways, it was a similar story to Liverpool’s previous game – the 2-0 win over Brighton on Saturday.

Once again, the Reds rode out an underwhelming first-half before kicking things up a notch after the break.

Just as it did at the weekend, the Anfield crowd more than played its part, too.

In the days since Liverpool’s win over Brighton, former Reds centre-back Jamie Carragher had been live on Sky Sports Monday Night Football to analyse his old team’s performance.

And with Carragher claiming that Liverpool were playing football that Arne Slot didn’t want during that game, the Liverpool head coach confronted him after sweeping Leverkusen aside.

Carragher and Slot have already met for an interview during the very earliest part of the Dutchman’s reign.

Being the same age and ultimately from the exact same footballing generation, the pair seem to have struck up a bit of a rapport.

This could be seen in all its glory when Slot appeared in front of the CBS Sports Golazo cameras for a chat with Carragher, Micah Richards, Thierry Henry and Kate Abdo on Tuesday night.

Asked by Carragher to explain the feeling of being at Anfield to see another quickfire double from his team, Slot informed the Liverpool academy graduate that he’d seen his ‘presentation’ on the matter this week and did not fully agree.

“I saw your presentation about those two minutes [vs Brighton].

“Yes Arne!” shouts the former Man City defender.

“I like the high press just as much as Jurgen liked it, I think that’s one of the reasons why Liverpool, why Richard [Hughes] came to me, that our playing style was quite similar.

“Where I do agree with you Jamie, is maybe with the ball, risk reward, maybe we wait a bit longer to play the ball in behind,” Slot adds.

“But what we always want from our players is that we pressed them really high and that’s what we did in the moments you showed.”

This was a really funny little moment from Slot and really showcased how much of his personality is now starting to shine through at Liverpool.

Having come in and been focused on getting results on the board, the 46-year-old now looks like he’s really growing into his role at the club.

Of course, Slot is never going to be Jurgen Klopp.

But perhaps the act of beating Xabi Alonso – the man initially seen as the leading candidate to succeed Klopp in the summer – has just given him that extra bit of confidence.

Carragher certainly doesn’t mind a little bit of banter such as this and we’re delighted to see Arne dish it a little bit to the outspoken Liverpool legend.
