Liverpool players are facing fresh questions over squad stability after Virgil van Dijk spoke out on the transfer rumours surrounding Alisson. He added that he’d love to see the Brazilian stay at Liverpool past this summer but insisted they have to take things one step at a time for now.
Van Dijk on Alisson’s future (h/t James Pearce): “We have been through everything together, positive things and some negative things unfortunately as well, so it would definitely be a big blow and a miss, but I don’t think it’s a good idea to think ahead about what could or could not happen. “He’s very important for me as one of the leaders in the team, and he is very important on the pitch because he is, in my opinion, the best goalkeeper in the world.
Liverpool are in a strong position to keep their keeper if they want to; his current deal offers plenty of security, and the club could hold out for a massive fee if he were to leave early. The rumours of a Serie A move feel more like media chatter than a done deal, especially since Van Dijk admitted he hasn’t heard anything concrete and thinks Alisson is also in the dark.
