Arne Slot said he understood the frustration of the Anfield crowd after Liverpool’s draw with struggling Tottenham in the Premier League was greeted with a smattering of boos. Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher accused last season’s champions of “sleepwalking” to a costly draw in the top-five race and Slot accepted it has been a pattern this year.

“I think it is completely normal,” the Liverpool head coach told Sky Sports when asked about the boos that greeted the full-time whistle. “If the team you are supporting drop so many points against teams you don't expect them to so many times in the last seconds of a game then I think we all feel a lot of frustration.“They have experienced this far too many times, more times than they are used to and that is completely normal that they show their frustration.

“The frustration is felt by me, by the players and also by our fans.” Liverpool midfielder Szoboszlai, who warned the Reds to “wake up” or face playing in the Conference League next season, also accepted their performance had been sub-par. “I didn't hear the boos but I can understand because last season we became champions and this season we are not performing in the way that we should be,” Szoboszlai said.“They should stay behind us because last season when we were champions four games before the end, everybody was happy.
