Chelsea avoided a sporting sanction, such as a points deduction, due to what the Premier League described as “voluntary self-reporting” of historical breaches. Former Liverpool managing director Christian Purslow believes the Premier League has been “way too generous” in punishing Chelsea over secret transfer payments.

While Everton and Nottingham Forest have received points deductions in recent years for breaching Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), Chelsea avoided a sporting sanction despite what were described as “obvious and deliberate breaches” involving “deception and concealment” in financial matters.
