They badly needed some new weapons for Andoni Iraola.The top of the pitch is far from the only area in need of some attention, though, and Romano says that Liverpool are aware of this too.Speaking to fan-led podcast Born ‘N Red, the transfer expert focused on the Reds’ search for a midfielder initially, before looking at what’s going on at right-back.“I’m sure that a midfielder could be something happening, but again, nothing imminent at the moment,” Romano said. “It could also help to understand how much they spend on Diomande, how much they get if they sell Jones, that’s going to be an important point to understand how much they can invest in a midfielder.“I expect Liverpool to explore something in terms of right-back,” he then explained.

“It’s already something they were discussing with Arne Slot when he was still at the club, now there’s Iraola, so the strategy could be different, but I think we could expect something later in the window. Now the winger position is the absolute priority for Liverpool and then after that, after they understand how much they will spend on the winger position, it’s going to be clear about the right-back, the midfielder and the rest.”Although Romano did not discuss any specific names in terms of right-back, he did go on to say that Adam Wharton is appreciated in midfield, and that Liverpool did make a call to find out the situation of West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes.With the Portuguese seemingly set to join either Tottenham or Manchester United, though, Liverpool do not look likely to make a move there.
