Liverpool defender Rhys Williams has confirmed his imminent departure. Williams rose through the Anfield club’s academy ranks and was part of their FA Youth Cup-winning side which put Manchester City to the sword in 2019.

The centre-back made his senior debut for the Reds under Jurgen Klopp in a Carabao Cup third round victory over Lincoln City in September 2020. But despite being part of the side which sealed a third place finish, Williams spent his final years on a series of loan spells both in the EFL and Scotland.

The 25-year-old confirmed on Monday that he will be leaving Merseyside after 16 years when his current conract is due to expire at the end of next month. “From signing as an 9 year old boy, to leaving as a 25 year old man, this club has let me fulfill things that dreams are made of,” Williams wrote on social media.
