Liverpool will take on Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter finals. Arne Slot’s side booked their place in the last eight with a 3-1 win at Wolves while their North West rivals progressed with an identical result at Newcastle.
City have done the double over the Premier League champions this season with their latest victory coming in last month’s late smash-and-grab at Anfield. It will be the eighth meeting between the clubs in the FA Cup and comes four years after their previous encounter in 2022 ended in a five-goal thriller.
Liverpool have lost just two of their cup ties against their former Premier League title rivals, both of them arriving in replays in 1956 and 1973. Their only quarter-final encounter with City in March 1988 saw them run out 4-0 winners at Maine Road in a run which took them through to the final.
