The youngster — who does not turn 18 until August — made 29 appearances in all competitions, but the vast majority of those appearances came as a substitute. The BBC reports that Ngumoha was dissatisfied with his lack of playing time throughout the campaign, but Liverpool will clearly be determined to keep hold of him into next season.

Had Ngumoha featured more regularly, he might have had a better chance of making it into Thomas Tuchel's World Cup squad. Were he to seal an unlikely move to Bayern, he would link up with former Liverpool teammate Luis Diaz, who has had a good time since joining the Bavarian, and a couple of months ago he spoke about how pleased he was with his decision to seek pastures new last summer."Deciding to join Bayern was the right choice. I'm really happy and I enjoy every match.," Diaz said.

"I feel great, I'm in good shape, and that means I'm ready to help the team."We have a clear plan, we're a very close-knit group, and that shows on the pitch."Ngumoha was one of a clutch of young players selected to gain experience and help the Three Lions' senior squad to prepare for the tournament during a pre-World Cup training camp.Although Ngumoha was not in England's 26-man squad for the tournament, he was eligible to feature in Saturday's friendly against New Zealand, which England won 1-0.He came on as a half-time substitute in that game and ended up winning the man-of-the-match award, leading many viewers to wonder why he wasn't included in the 26-man squad that Tuchel thinks will give England the best chance of winning the World Cup.Rio Ngumoha starred for England against New Zealand(Image: ©Icon Sportswire All Rights Reserved)Ngumoha's England teammate and Merseyside rival, Jordan Pickford, praised Ngumoha for his showing against New Zealand.“He was quality, nothing fazed him," Everton goalkeeper Pickford said.“He’s had a really good season at Liverpool and the manager gave him his debut and he showed how good he is.“All the young lads have been brilliant in training, they have moulded into the squad and helped us massively and it also shows the talent we have in the system.“It is a credit to the academies and the pathway we have in English football.”In the event of injury or illness, Tuchel is permitted to make changes to his squad up until 24 hours before its opening group game against Croatia on June 17.However, he will only be allowed to choose from the players he included in an original 55-man squad, which was not made public but which Ngumoha is not believed to have been on.
