Micky van de Ven has been linked with a summer move to Liverpool in recent days, but the talk is likely to have emerged as a ploy to get him a new deal at Tottenham Hotspur. That is the view of journalist Lewis Steele, who has admitted his scepticism over the possibility of seeing Van de Ven join the Reds in the coming months.Liverpool are likely to be in need of a new centre-back before the window shuts in September, but according to Steele, anyone hoping that Van de Ven will join is set to be left disappointed. I do think that’s maybe pushed a bit from the agent’s side. But I do wonder if that is where that’s coming from, to get a new Spurs deal.”READ MORE: Choosing Liverpool’s best Yan Diomande alternative as Yankuba Minteh and Said El Mala analysedPhoto by Roy Lazet/Soccrates/Getty ImagesMaxence Lacroix rumours assessedAs well as looking at Liverpool’s rumoured interest in Van de Ven, Steele was also asked about the possibility of Crystal Palace’s Maxence Lacroix joining the Reds this summer. While the journalist conceded that Liverpool have had previous interest in the Frenchman, he suggested that he is not actively being pursued during this summer’s window.

“I’ve not had it shot down, definitely not. I’ve not had it shot up either, if that’s a concept,” Steele said.“They’ve definitely looked at him in the past, and I think in the past is probably the key thing there.
