Mohamed Salah is on the lookout for a new club as he captains Egypt at this summer's World Cup, although there have been suggestions that he could yet stay at LiverpoolMohamed Salah will be looking for a new club this summer after leaving Liverpool(Image: Getty Images)Micah Richards has revealed Mohamed Salah “always wanted to play for Liverpool” after another of the winger’s teammates suggested he could yet stay at Anfield this summer.Salah announced his exit from the Reds earlier this year before bidding farewell to Liverpool last month. No indication has yet been given on his next move, having come to an agreement with the club to waive the final year of his contract and leave for free. For now, the 34-year-old’s focus is on the World Cup, where he will be aiming to captain Egypt to a first-ever win at the tournament, with his club future having been put to one side. That, combined with the possibility that it could be Salah’s final World Cup, puts even more pressure on the winger, but Richards - who played alongside him at Fiorentina - doesn’t see him wilting.“I feel as though Mo Salah thrives on that expectation,” Richards told BBC Sport.
“Going back, all the time I was at Fiorentina, the effort he put in in training in terms of how he saw his career going, whether that was eating right, doing extras.”Richards also went into detail about the conversations he had with Salah during their time together in Italy, saying: “He goes from Fiorentina to Roma, and then his numbers just got greater, greater and greater. He always said to me he wanted to play for Liverpool, that was the club in his heart, and he said to me as well that he would go there and be the top scorer, which he’s done.Salah confirmed his exit from Liverpool earlier this year(Image: Jack Thomas, Getty Images)“So he’s had all that at Liverpool, translated that to Egypt where he’s the main man, and he thrives off that pressure.“Yes, he’s not the Mo Salah of maybe three, four years ago when he was at his actual pomp, but in terms of what he can do when he gets in those positions, he can still finish, he can still take someone on, he’s still got that conviction in front of goal, he’s just not got the energy of maybe previous seasons.”Richards’ comments come after Salah’s Egypt teammate Ahmed El-Shenawy suggested that he could yet end up remaining at Anfield."The prospect of leaving Liverpool has affected Mo psychologically, but the situation might change and he could still stay with the team," El-Shenawy told ON Time Sports ahead of Egypt’s first game against Belgium.
