Liverpool spoke to Jurgen Klopp in order to get his thoughts on appointing Andoni Iraola as their next manager, according to a new claim. Iraola guided Bournemouth to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League in 2025/26, playing eye-catching football along the way, and the hope is that he can be an inspirational figure in charge of Liverpool for many years to come.

Writing on X on Tuesday, journalist and former striker Jan Aage Fjortoft claimed that the Reds spoke with legendary former manager Klopp to get his take on Iraola before hiring him: “I said I was told that they talked to Klopp, and that makes sense. What they were told I have no idea.” Speaking to Jurgen Klopp a shrewd decision by Liverpool Given Klopp’s iconic standing at Liverpool and world-class ability as a manager, it is good to see that they reportedly confided in him when it came to assessing Iraola.

The German is clearly a big admirer of the 43-year-old and his approach to the game, having lauded his playing style back in January 2024, saying: “That’s real coaching I have to say, and he found a way to set this team up and they have a really good mix. They play football, they find direction in the right moments, they use Dom Solanke in a sensational way: the support he gets from the centre, from the wings.
