Robbie Fowler admits Liverpool's current squad won't be capable of challenging for the Premier League title this coming season.But the legendary striker remains confident that the club will get it right in this summer's transfer window and provide new coach Andoni Iraola with everything he needs to turn things around at Anfield.The Reds limped to a fifth-place last season and have since lost Mohamed Salah, Ibrahima Konate and Andy Robertson, who all moved on at the end of their Anfield contracts.Liverpool's poor campaign last time out resulted in Arne Slot being sacked just 12 months after lifting the Premier League title and sporting director Richard Hughes has so far added just Victor Munoz, a £34.5m capture from Osasuna, to the ranks this window.New coach Iraola has outlined the need for at least one winger this summer and has also talked up the possibility of signing a right-sided defender as Conor Bradley continues his recovery from a serious knee injury suffered in January.Speaking on the club's pre-season tour of the United States, Fowler accepts the rebuild is far from complete as it stands, less than a month before the Premier League season begins."Look, if I’m sort of sat here and saying ‘oh yeah, we are perfect and we’re in a great place’, then you’d be looking at me thinking I’m lying," Fowler says."I’ve got to be totally honest with you, I think this current squad is not capable of challenging."But there’s a long time [to go] in the window and I’m very confident that the club will bring players in."And I’m very confident the club will bring the right players in to sort of aid and progress the football.“There’s a progression straight away in terms of a new manager coming in and everyone is starting off a fresh and then you look at the remaining weeks of this transfer window and players will come in. I am absolutely confident that will happen."I could sit here all day and name players but I think you’ve got to be realistic for what areas.

I think pre-season is massive as a striker, the fitness it gives you is imperative, we know that."But it’s also the sharpness and the match sharpness and I think he lacked that. Then he misses the end of the season and probably wasn’t fit at the end of the season."So I think it’s massively important that we’re seeing him perform this pre-season and doing the training and the things required to be a striker."It’s different [as a striker].

It’s different to other positions, the match sharpness is imperative for strikers."So thankfully he is here [in the United States] and I want to see him have that great pre-season because I know he will score goals. I love him as a player, I think he’s brilliant."It’s funny with football last year when you look at formations and tactics, certainly with that focal point striker if you like, we probably never played to Isak’s strengths."Because we had the wide attackers, the wider players, coming into congested areas where you have to find that unbelievable pass."Whereas if you look at the great No.9s of the Premier League, they want to go and attack the ball when it comes over from the byline."So don’t be surprised if we see a lot more of that this year because I think when you have spent a lot of money on strikers like Liverpool have, you have to use them the right way.
