Arne Slot’s future has been a constant source of debate going into the summer of 2026.Fans are sick of Slot and have been calling for the Dutchman to be replaced in the dugout for a while now.Liverpool will end the season without a trophy and are just about going to get into the Champions League because there are five places this season and teams below them are struggling, but Ruud Gullit still thinks the 47-year-old should be given another campaign at Anfield. Is a fifth-place finish enough to warrant Arne Slot remaining Liverpool manager?

They (Liverpool) didn’t win (the league) for a long, long time.

“Therefore they need to give Slot another season in order to get it right. Overall performances and a lack of any sort of clear style have been the standout problems. The win over Everton should ease some pressure on Slot for now at least, but if Liverpool struggle in their remaining five matches and somehow don’t finish fifth despite a seven-point lead over their rivals, it is hard to see the manager sticking around.Even if he does stay put, there is a risk we are in a similar situation to the end of Brendan Rodgers’ tenure, when he needed to be replaced in the first few months of a season anyway after he was backed over the summer.Join Our NewsletterReceive a digest of our best Liverpool content each week direct to your mailbox
