There goes the final whistle, and it's a first Anfield win for Arne Slot, and it's two out of two for the Dutchman.

Luis Diaz opened the scoring in the first half after a great counter-attack.

Then Mohamed Salah doubled the lead in the second half with a composed left-footed finish.

At times, the Reds were very sharp and created plenty of chances in the second period.

However, Brentford were dangerous throughout, and on another day, they could have easily scored at least one.

But none of that matters for Liverpool, who now head into a huge game against Manchester United with six points.

Cody Gakpo now hits the bar.

The Dutchman is on in place of Luis Diaz and nearly makes an instant impact.

He cuts in from the left and curls a shot at goal that hits Nathan Collins and deflects off the crossbar and away.

HE WAS ALWAYS GOING TO SCORE!

Luis Diaz drifts in from the left and pings a low pass into Mohamed Salah's feet.

It's a great ball, and Salah's touch takes him away from his marker.

Then with his second, he opens up his body and curls a finish into the net.

There is a quick check for offside, but he's just on, and that should be the end of the game.

Andy Robertson, you lucky boy.

Brentford think they should have a penalty as Bryan Mbeumo is bundled to the floor in the box.

The referee blows his whistle and looks to be pointing to the spot, but the offside flag saves Robertson, who bundled the Bees man to the ground.

VAR has a quick look, but it's offside.

Dominik Szoboszlai hits the crossbar!

Liverpool win a corner after putting together a sensational move involving Mohamed Salah, Alexis Mac Allister and Diogo Jota.

It ends with Mac Allister poking a ball through towards the six-yard-box for Salah, but it's poked out out for a corner.

Liverpool put together a lovely move that ends with Alexis Mac Allister pinging a gorgeous pass to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

He gets to the byline and drills a cross into the box.

Big stop from Alisson Becker!

He's not had too much to do this afternoon, but he's just come up with a good save there.

Brentford win a corner, and they work it cleverly to Mathias Jensen.

He swings a ball into the back post, and Nathan Collins meets it with a thumping header.

It's probably a bit too close to the goalkeeper, but he still makes an important save.

Initially, Diogo Jota attempts an incredible overhead kick.

He makes contact, and the ball flies to the back post, where Andy Robertson connects with a header.

But from close range, Mark Flekken denies him before he then stops Dominik Szoboszlai.

That's the end of the first 45 minutes, and it's been a decent one for Arne Slot's side.

They have the lead thanks to an excellent Luis Diaz finish.

Apart from that, the hosts haven't created too much more, but have looked dangerous at times.

Meanwhile, Brentford grew into the game and probably should be level through Christian Norgaard.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah combine, and the former strides to the edge of the box.

He thinks he's been blocked off and goes down, but the referee says play on, and Diogo Jota lunges in on Mark Flekken, and the goalkeeper just about clears his lines ahead of Jota tapping in.

All of his goals came in the second half and were set up by Cole Palmer.

Speaking after the game, he said: “Listen, I just want to apologise to anyone I offended.

In the other game, Bournemouth and Newcastle played out a 1-1 draw.

The Cherries were the much better team in the first half and opened the scoring through Marcus Tavernier.

The Magpies improved in the second half when Eddie Howe introduced some substitutes.

Yerson Mosquera, you lucky boy.

The Wolves man could and should have been sent off last week against Arsenal for strangling Kai Havertz, and he gets away with one this time as well.

The centre-back crunches into a challenge on Moises Caicedo.

It's late and high, but it's just a booking.
