The ECHO commemorated one of the club's most decorated players with a front page featuring an iconic image from his time at Anfield.In a playing career that spanned nearly two decades, Keegan retired with two Ballons d'Or as well as six major trophies during his time at the Reds including a European Cup and three First Division titles before he left for Hamburg in Germany in 1977.



After retiring from playing he went on to manage Newcastle United, Fulham, England and Manchester City before returning to Newcastle in 2008.As his former clubs lead the tributes, former Liverpool legends and players coached by Keegan shared their condolences. Kenny Dalglish who took Liverpool's No.7 shirt following Keegan's departure to Hamburg in 1977, said: "Kevin was one of the very best players of his generation and wore Liverpool’s famous number 7 shirt with great distinction.

His achievements on the pitch were exceptional, but he was also a wonderful person and a genuine gentleman."Meanwhile, former Liverpool centre-back Jamie Carragher said: "One of the greatest players this country has ever produced, trophies & goals galore, double Ballon d'Or winner shows he was an absolute giant of the English game.
