SportFootballLiverpool FCBournemouth midfielder Alex Scott believes Andoni Iraola can echo Jurgen Klopp once he is appointed Liverpool bossAndoni Iraola has been backed to return Jurgen Klopp's heavy metal football to Anfield as he prepares to become the new Liverpool boss.Iraola is expected to shortly be confirmed as successor to the sacked Arne Slot having jetted into Merseyside on Thursday to seal what is understood to be a two-year contract at Anfield. The Spaniard has been the preferred candidate of Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes ever since the decision was taken to axe Slot after a disappointing defence of the Premier League title he won during his debut campaign in charge.Departing winger Mohamed Salah stated on social media last month that Liverpool needed to return to the "heavy metal football" that was prevalent during the start of Klopp's nine-year reign. And Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, who played throughout Iraola's three years in charge at the Cherries, is convinced Iraola can be a success at Anfield.Asked what Liverpool can expect from the incoming boss, Scott said: "He is obviously a great manager, you see what we have done as a club at Bournemouth and how we have progressed over the three seasons he was with us.“I think the way we press out of possession is very aggressive, maybe similar to the early Klopp teams Liverpool had, that fierce aggressiveness and pressing with the wingers.“I would say he is similar to that. Liverpool fans should definitely be so excited, he has done a lot for me personally.”Scott also believes Iraola will help improve other players just as he did for his own game at Bournemouth.“I have improved loads this season, out of possession and in possession," said Scott.
"I feel like I have had his trust.“Defensively, maybe in my first two seasons, I wasn’t at the level to be playing in the Premier League and that is something I had to learn on and learn from the players ahead of me in the team.“But he put his trust in me from the first game of the season and I started and played 34 full games this year, so that is something to be really proud of. Injury free as well, which I was happy with.“The manager has been amazing for me, working with me going forward, defensively, being more aggressive, and that is the reason I played most games this season.”Choose Liverpool Echo as a 'Preferred Source' on Google News for quick access to the news you value.Liverpool FCAndoni Iraola
