Liverpool Officially Announces Five More Legends for Borussia Dortmund Friendly

Liverpool FC has confirmed five additional players for their LFC Legends squad in the upcoming charity match against Borussia Dortmund Legends at Anfield on Saturday, March 28, 2026, with a 3pm GMT kick-off.[1][3]

The newly announced players are Sami Hyypia, Fabio Aurelio, Gregory Vignal, Martin Kelly, and Yossi Benayoun. Hyypia, a key figure in the 2005 Champions League triumph and former captain, made 464 appearances for the Reds, scoring 35 goals over a decade. Aurelio, Liverpool's first Brazilian signing in 2006, returns for the legends fixture, while Vignal has prior experience, having scored against AFC Ajax in 2024. Kelly and Benayoun recently featured in the Legends' win over Chelsea earlier this season.[3]

These additions join goalkeepers Jerzy Dudek, Pepe Reina, and Sander Westerveld. Further names, including Dirk Kuyt and Martin Skrtel, have also been reported as part of the expanding squad.[3][4]

The match, presented by AXA and in association with Forever Reds, celebrates the clubs' shared history, including their mutual anthem You'll Never Walk Alone, former manager Jürgen Klopp—who will manage the LFC Legends—and past encounters like the 2016 Europa League comeback and the 1966 European Cup Winners' Cup final won by Dortmund.[1][2][6]

All proceeds will support LFC Foundation, Forever Reds, and BVB Foundation, funding health, learning, employability programs, and social projects. Previous legends matches have raised over £9 million, with LFC Foundation aiding over 145,000 people last season. The game features two 45-minute halves, with tickets priced from £9.50 to £29.50.[1][2][3]

Jürgen Klopp's return to the Anfield touchline adds extra excitement to this special occasion, promising a memorable afternoon of football for a great cause.[5][6]
