Oldham Athletic officially trigger contract extension for former Liverpool forward

Former Liverpool forward’s extension has been triggered by Oldham Athletic. A number of players will depart as part of the club’s retained and released list, as the League Two side continue to reshape their squad after a positive return to the EFL.Defenders Jake Caprice and Dynel Simeu, midfielders Tom Conlon, Josh Kay and Kieron Morris, and forwards Kian Harratt and Billy Waters will all leave Boundary Park.Meanwhile, defenders Jake Leake, Manny Monthe and Reagan Ogle, midfielder Frankie McMahon-Brown, and forward Joe Garner are in talks to extend their stays.Josh Hawkes and Ryan Woods have been placed on the transfer list, while Fabio Jalo, Michael Mellon, Kai Payne and Kane Taylor have returned to their parent clubs following loan spells.Former Liverpool forward Kane Drummond has also had his contract extension officially triggered by the club.



He was recently adjudged the PFA Fans’ Select Car Leasing League Two Player of the Month for March.Drummond was recognised for an impressive spell with Latics, scoring four goals in seven games as Micky Mellon’s side secured five wins during a strong run of form.He started every match in March and consistently made an impact in the final third. His standout moments included a brilliant brace against former club Chesterfield and a superb solo effort against Notts County.Drummond topped the fan vote ahead of Kieran Green (Grimsby), Mark Helm (Fleetwood), Jodi Jones (Notts County), Tommy Leigh (Bristol Rovers) and Grant Smith (Bromley).Drummond racked up 45 appearances, scored eight goals and provided three assists this season across all competitions for Oldham Athletic, who finished 10th in the league table.Drummond grew up in Toxteth, Liverpool.
