Liverpool are now likely to sell Cody Gakpo after an important step was taken in talks between PSG and the Reds for the transfer of Bradley Barcola. The Frenchman has been the No.1 transfer target at Anfield for nigh on two months now, but his move to Merseyside is finally looking likely and not just possible.
A report from The Athletic states that an agreement in principle has been made with PSG over a fee worth a total of £120m, with over £100m of the overall package guaranteed while the rest will be performance-related bonuses. “Nothing has been signed yet, and the deal is yet to be completed, but a potential transfer could have knock on effects for Cody Gakpo, who has been repeatedly linked to Tottenham Hotspur and has been the subject of interest from Manchester City this summer.” A deal to sell Gakpo will be worth in the region of £75m, according to a Tottenham insider. yes, looking likely to be over £75M. — ?
(@szyexcl) August 27, 2026 It will be sad to see Gakpo leave but Barcola is the much better player I might be in the minority of Liverpool fans who are sad to see Gakpo go, or at least in this manner. Liverpool will play to Barcola’s strengths, but it won’t be hard as the 23-year-old is a perfect match for the Reds.
