The Liverpool legend has not been in management since leaving Saudi outfit Al-Ettifaq in January 2025 via mutual consent.Over the weekend, it was reported that the 45-year-old is gearing up for a return to management and is open to new jobs on the market. And now it seems that situation is gathering pace. The vacancy in question opened up on Thursday morning, with Burnley confirming via an official club statement that they had parted ways with head coach Scott Parker. The Clarets sit 19th in the Premier League table on 20 points after 34 games, with relegation back to the Championship already mathematically confirmed, and the club’s hierarchy have evidently decided a fresh voice is needed before the rebuild begins.A club statement read:“Scott Parker has left his position as Head Coach of Burnley Football Club by mutual consent.”“Following confirmation of the Club’s relegation from the Premier League last week, Parker and the Board held discussions and mutually agreed that his time at Turf Moor would conclude.”“The Club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Scott for his professionalism, dedication and contribution.

He leaves with the respect and gratitude of everyone connected with Burnley Football Club.”Burnley add that the process to appoint a new manager has already begun. It comes after Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri has reported that Gerrard has given the “green light” for his representatives to enter talks with the relegated side.It would mark his first English managerial role since leaving Aston Villa in October 2022. Meanwhile, it has also been reported that Championship side Bristol City have offered Gerrard the hotseat at Ashton Gate.Should he agree to take that job, he would step into a role currently being held on an interim basis by his former England and Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson.
