Liverpool has reportedly intensified its pursuit of Greek forward Stefanos Tzimas, with the club prepared to pay a record-breaking €25 million (£21.5 million) to secure the 19-year-old’s signature.

The deal, if completed, would make Tzimas the most expensive Greek player in history, surpassing the €23 million Marseille paid for Kostas Mitroglou in 2017.

Despite being just nineteen years of age, it is said that senior figures at Anfield are ‘excited’ by Tzimas and see his asking price as a bargain that aligns with their current recruitment strategy.

But it seems that the club will have to wait until the summer should they want to secure a deal.

Nürnberg sporting director Olaf Rebbe spoke to German outlet Bild (h/t Empire of the Kop) about Tzimas, basically ruling a winter move out of the equation:

“We won’t give up any top performers in the winter, but with a view to the summer, we are of course already looking at a few options,” Rebbe said.

If Liverpool were to secure Stefanos Tzimas’ signature in the summer, it is highly probable that the club would initially loan him out before bringing him into the first-team fold.

Such a strategy would enable Tzimas to adapt to the demands of elite football and develop further before being fully integrated into Liverpool’s first-team plans.
