The full Liverpool share bought by a group involving Jeff Bezos has been revealed. Bhatia’s father-in-law and steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal also provided funding with the investing trio’s collective wealth estimated to be over £317 billion.
It was initally claimed that the group, trading under the name 1892 Holdings, had taken up a 30% stake in exchange for a £1.65bn ‘strategic’ buy-in. Owners Fenway Sports Group retain a majority share of Andoni Iraola’s side and have stressed they are not currently pursuing any potential exit strategy.
Bezos’s involvement is considered to be a passive one with his K5 investment portfolio providing representation at board level in the new-look hierarchy. Former QPR co-owner Bhatia was installed as Liverpool’s new vice-chairman while Saverin’s wife Elaine has also taken a seat in the expanded boardroom.
