Liverpool’s attacking options with Yankuba Minteh and Ismaila Sarr should make fans pray that both join

Quite what Liverpool are trying to do with their attack has been a source of confusion for fans all summer long, and the picture is still far from clear heading into transfer deadline day.The Reds have reportedly agreed an £85m deal for Cody Gakpo to join Manchester City, and are in the midst of trying to replace him.Ismaila Sarr has been named as the favourite target, but there have also been claims that Liverpool could sign Sarr and Yankuba Minteh from Brighton. Which incomings and outgoings do you want to see at Liverpool by Tuesday’s deadline?

Time is quickly running out on another underwhelming summer at Anfield… Photo Credit: Getty Images/Sarah Stier/FIFA Though supporters are not especially enthused about either player as a swap for Gakpo, signing them both before Tuesday’s deadline would be an entirely different story.If Liverpool can somehow get both Sarr and Minteh through the door, with Gakpo heading the other way, the makeup of who is playing where in their attack would finally be clear, and it would be incredibly exciting.Liverpool would have two top options across the front lineEven though Gakpo is left-sided normally, Liverpool are blatantly trying to sign a right winger to replace his position in the squad.Minteh and Sarr both naturally play on the right, and if they arrive as a pair, they will immediately give Andoni Iraola two different options.READ MORE: What the stats tell us about Liverpool target Ismaila Sarr and how he compares against Cody GakpoTheir signings would also mean Rio Ngumoha returns to a left-sided berth, where he has looked infinitely more comfortable.Though he would be back-up to marquee new signing Bradley Barcola, Ngumoha should still get plenty of game time as the first reserve.Through the middle Liverpool of course have Alexander Isak, but a big question mark has been over who comes in for the Swede if he is rested or injured.Obviously, in the long-term Hugo Ekitike will return to give Liverpool two top-class options to rotate or play together.Photo by Dan Mullan/Getty ImagesUntil then, though, the answer is potentially Victor Munoz, whose two appearances for the Reds so far have come from the right and then the left. Federico Chiesa is still around – though he could leave before Tuesday – and that would give Iraola seven options, as well as potentially Lewis Koumas, for his attack.There may be a slight issue when Ekitike returns, with Liverpool having seven forwards for three positions, but Sarr this is the kind of depth which is needed to tackle a full season across all fronts.For now, it probably remains more likely that Liverpool sign one of Sarr or Minteh and let Gakpo leave.

But if they really want to protect themselves and set their forward line for years to come, they will go out and pay what it takes to get them both.Other areas of the squad will absolutely need addressing next summer and beyond, but the Reds could forget about their attack for a little while at least.
